A Primer on Valuable EEO/HR Statistics
This 1-day seminar will focus on a series of statistics that can be particularly useful for human resource management (HRM) purposes, including for EEO considerations. This session is catered to HR professionals involved in HRM, as well as to lawyers interested in a statistics refresher. The seminar begins with a series of HRM scenarios where important questions need to be answered. The session then focuses on a series of descriptive statistics and data presentation strategies that can be particularly useful for understanding data quality and meaning. Next, the notion of significance is considered in the context of relations between variables, with a focus on statistical significance testing and practical significance measurement. Two general types of statistical analyses are then reviewed; those that test differences between groups (e.g., Z tests, exact tests, and t tests), and those that assess variable relations (correlation, linear regression, logistic regression). The session concludes with a framework for selecting the appropriate statistics, and answers to the earlier HRM questions via statistics.
